Pros and Cons
With all of the praise coffee is beginning to receive I am sure you are wondering what happened to all the bad effects we have been hearing about for years. Well, some of the are still there. The caffeine content can raise cholesterol level in some people. It can also cause rapid heartbeat, nervousness and trembling hands. And last but not least it may contribute to the clogging of arteries.
While all of these things are undesirable there is good news. Studies show there are more good benefits than bad. Coffee is loaded with antioxidants. Its also has been shown that children who drink a cup of coffee with milk each day are less likely to be depressed than children who do not. All in all, to me I say bring on the coffee. Finally, something that I love is said to be good for me.

This is great news to me, too! When my coffee maker broke I decided I needed to cut back anyway, so I bought a MUCH smaller one. Of course, it's just inconvienient now, as I'm just having to prepare coffee more often...cuting back didn't actually happen. Now I don't have to feel guilty about it!!
Both of us love coffee! It is such a blessing to find out that something that tastes good actually has some health benefits.
The only draw back is that neither of us can drink it in the evening, at least not if we want to sleep at night.
Our compensation is to drink a lot of coffee every morning.
Black coffee is good for you in moderate doses. The liver is stimulated by bitter taste. Unfortunately when you mix coffee with milk there is confusion within the body and the brain chemistry starts going a bit skewed. In Ayurveda medicine we have a stimulant with a calming substance (milk) which creates chaos (moodiness). Drinking large doses of coffee which is an American trait exacerbated by Starbucks is not good for your health.
Basically - the coffee is bitter and the milk is calming. When the combination hits the digestive system, liver etc., it creates confusion. The liver is not sure how to process it and so is creates chaos in our brain chemistry - like a chaos principle. The liver will act differently if it is given lemon as opposed to milk. Combine the two and the liver wants to know what you want to do? It has to work harder. If the liver is sluggish which if you have too much processed foods in the diet, it most likely is, the liver is most likely to become inactive due to over-work. Maybe it goes out on strike!
Love coffee but now that it's cold I have to make a bigger pot for two people. I knew that it reduced the risk of colon cancer but didn't know that it can help reduce headaches. Thanks!

Coffee has medicinal value which very few people know. People with low BP are asked to have as many cups of coffee as they can.
