Getting ready for the Holidays
It's never too early to start getting ready for the Christmas season especially if you are the type who likes to give personal gifts. There is nothing better than receiving a gift that a friend or loved one took the time to make. It gives a person that warm, fuzzy feeling to know that someone cares enough to spend some of their hard to find extra time to make this gift for you. It doesn't matter how large or small the gift is it is the time and thought that was put into it. Anyway, as I said it is never to early to get started on your Holiday craft projects.
A few years ago, when I had more time than money, I made everyone a handmade gift. That first year it was soap in their favorite scents. Since that first year my friends and loved ones have grown to expect and actually look forward to receiving these special little gifts. I try to make something different every year. I hope I don't run out of ideas. This year I am making personalized Christmas ornaments for everyone on my list.
I have been looking for the perfect ornament pattern for each person and it has become quite a project, a fun one but time consuming. I decided to give a little hand to those of you out there who are beginning to look around for those special patterns for their own Holiday gifts to make. I found some of the most adorable free patterns online. All you have to do to make them special is to stitch the person's name and the date on them.
Where do I find the free patterns
There are so many places to find these free cross stitch patterns that I had to narrow down my list. It was very hard to choose just a few but I managed. The few sites that I finally settled on are the ones that had patterns that I will be using to make personalized ornaments for my gifts this year.

Crossstitch Ornament Patterns
What do I do when I finish stitching?
Many of these patterns are perfect for making ornaments. You can make a stuffed pillow ornament by backing the cross stitch piece with a cheerful holiday fabric adding a ribbon loop as a hanger. This little ornament is pretty with or without lace trim or fringe. Whatever you do make it your own. Use your imagination, the sky's the limit.
You can also use these designs to make holiday pillow, door hangers, pictures to hang on the wall, pot holders, embellish towels for kitchen or bath, embellish a tee shirt or sweatshirt, and many, many other things. Just use your imagination. Whatever you make your friends and loved one will love it because you cared enough to put time and thought into this special gift.
By the way, these free patterns can be used for personal use only (in most cases) unless otherwise stated on the website. The people who designed these patterns spent a lot of time getting them just so and would be unhappy to find their patterns out there making money for someone other than themselves. So go ahead and use them to make for yourself or as gifts but please respect the designers who care and don't put them on the internet to sell. If you are unsure as to whether you can use them to make a profit for yourself (some of them don't mind) please contact the website and ask they will let you know.

Need help trying to locate a pattern for the 12 Days of Christmas. This is for a wall hanging and is quite large- in a triangle shape as might be expected. My mother made this in the 1970's. It is about 20" by 30". The partridge is facing left and has silver, brown, gray, and gold. The tree has 3 pears on it. All the figures are outlined in black. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated as my mother has died- age 96 and this will go to another sister. I would like to make one for myself.
