1. In Hawaii it is illegal to get a tattoo behind your ear or on your eyelid unless in the presence of a registered physician.
2. All residents may be fined as a result of not owning a boat.
3. Billboards are outlawed.
4. It's illegal for a shooting gallery to offer liquor as a prize.
5. Coins are not allowed to be placed in one's ear.
6. It used to be the law in Hawaii that children had to obey all "lawful and moral" commands of their parents.
7. In Honolulu it is unlawful to annoy any bird within the limits of any public park.
8. It is illegal to appear in public wearing only swimming trunks.
9. It is illegal to own a mongoose without a permit.

6 things to do on your first trip to Hawaii
Hawaii's Official Tourism site has some wonderful suggestions on what to do on your first trip to Hawaii. I thought I would pass them along to you.
1. Visit Kauai's Napali Coast. While there you can take guided hikes, boat rides, air tours and take beautiful pictures.
2. Visit the USS Arizona and Missouri memorial in Oahy's Pearl Harbor. The tours are wonderful and the gift shops are unbeatable.
3. Take a mule ride down to the Kalaupapa Peninsula on Molokai.
4. Drive along the Munro Trail in Lanai. You will see incredible views as you hike, bike or ride off-road. And the photos you will be able to take will be incredible.
5. Take the long, winding scenic drive down the road to Hana on Maui. While you are taking in the scene you can take beautiful panoramic pictures. When you arrive you can swim, snorkel, and sunbathe at the Hana beach.
6. Visit the an active volcano at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There are three active volcanoes in Hawaii and they are Hawaii's number one visitor attraction. Give one a visit it will be an experience you will never forget.

I enjoyed this hub very much. Too funny. Yes, there are some funny laws here and there are also some serious ones that are not followed. For instance, if you're walking across the pedestrian crosswalk, consider yourself a moving target. I've almost been run down several times. Many of the local people here don't think pedestrians have a right to be there. In fact, it's one of the questions on the driver's exam -- which you have to take even if you have a driver's license from another state. The question is multiple choice and asks what you should do if there's a pedestrian in the crosswalk. One of the answers is 'Run him down. He has no right to be there.' Some people choose that answer. lol

my friend has a tattoo behind her ear (we live in hawaii) and she got in the other day so thats definitely not true
stephanie, it's like anything else that was put in motion years ago. At one time it was supposed to be true. However, who knows now. Supposedely the law is still on the books but no one enforces it. Why would they? It's a silly law. Thanks for stopping in and thatks for the comment.

I had to laugh at these whether they are enforced or not...especially your comments following them. My husband and I have only seen the big island of Hawaii so have missed many of the other scenic spots. But we saw it end to end including a helicopter ride to a submarine ride and things in between. I am glad billboards are outlawed here - I wish it also went for those dumb signs they bring out every election and then they stand and wave at you and want you to wave back or toot your horn to show you will vote for their candidate. I am surprised more people aren't killed on the road during that time. As for coins in the ear, in Tonga many people do put their quarters in their ears since for many they fit perfectly in there - yuck! Thanks for an entertaining hub.

How interesting that people would stick coins in their ears for any reason.

I just don't know why I love crazy laws and hubs like this - but I do. So I thank you. It's important to know about mongoose ownership and required permits and whatnot.
